holy cow. it’s been a while. sorry about that.
my training has been … decent. i blame life. i’m not sad about this, i’ve had a great month or so. but i have not been as diligent as i should have been.
– i’ve been going to orangetheory fitness a lot. like four days per week a lot.
– i learned how to ski. and then did it successfully four times. i have yet to fall off the chair lift (but i hope this doesn’t jinx it).
– i ran a marathon. in a decent time (4 minutes slower than my PR).
here’s my mileage breakdown for the training so far
week 1: 15.3 miles
week 2: 29.6 miles
week 3: 31.1 miles
week 4: 23.2 miles
week 5: 41.4 miles (this is the week i ran the marathon)
week 6: 21.5 miles
week 7: 10.9 miles (family trip to chicago)
as i said, not great.
my excuses: life and weather.
life has happened in the last seven weeks. maintaining a long distance relationship means spending the time you’re together … together. not running for hours. we do shorts runs together but i’ve picked hanging out with him over a 20 mile run.
weather is a huge pain for outdoor long runs. i can only handle the treadmill for so long. when there was snow on the ground, i was afraid to run around my neighborhood for fear that a car would slip and hit me. or that i would fall. also when it is cold out, it is a lot harder to convince myself to run. i am inherently lazy (aren’t we all?) and it doesn’t take a lot for me to convince myself to stay in the warmth of my bed.
so, now i have 13 weeks until the race. i haven’t been doing nothing, but i definitely haven’t been training as hard as i should have. here’s my plan:
week 1: easy – 32 miles (california trip)
week 2: hard – 50 miles (22 mile long run)
week 3: hard – 52 miles (24 mile long run)
week 4: easy – 34 miles (rocky mountain national park snowshoe trip)
week 5: hard – 52 miles (phoenix kickball tournament) (24 mile long run)
week 6: hard – 56 miles (26 mile long run)
week 7: hard – 56 miles (LA marathon on 3/19)
week 8: easy – 36 miles (10 mile long run)
week 9: peak – 62 miles (28 mile run saturday and 12 mile run sunday)
week 10: peak – 62 miles (28 mile run saturday and 24k race sunday)
week 11: taper – 36 miles (and i may be traveling for a girls weekend?)
week 12: taper – 20 miles (and my parents might be in town?)
week 13: race week!!
that’s a lot of 50+ mile weeks. i don’t think i’ve ever run 50 miles in one week, so i am definitely a bit intimidated. i am going to try for more short runs mid week but i need to find a safe path or rec center treadmill to use.
i’m continuing to focus on strength training as well as long runs. on “hard” weeks i will focus on getting the long runs in on the weekend but may focus more on strength training during the week (which may hurt my weekly mileage). oh well, we’ll see. and i’ll try to do a better job of documenting it on here.
if you made it this far, congrats. sorry, it’s a lot of running talk. i doubt my parents made it through the first paragraph.
