many years ago, when i was about eight years old, i announced to my family at dinner that i had decided i was going to marry leo dicaprio on earth day. titanic had recently come out, so my crush on leo was far from surprising. but why earth day? i have absolutely no idea.
here are some earth day tips. none of these are surprising or new, but just a few tips on how to be a little greener on earth day.
1. use a reusable water bottle/coffee mug
bobble has a deal right now on their water bottles and coffee presses for 30% off with code “gogreen”
i really love my bkr water bottle, i use it every day at work.
at home, instead of buying bottled water, i use a brita water filtration system in my fridge for instant filtered and cold water.
2. use reusable shopping bags
(i know this and the water bottle are very obvious, but i still forget sometimes)
i got a flip & tumble bag from popsugar. it is perfect because it folds up into a tiny pod, but expands to hold all of my groceries. (and they’re 20% off right now with the code “earthday”)
(using reusable shopping bags doesn’t only apply to groceries. if you don’t need a bag when checking out of any type of store, opt for a reusable bag or throw it in your purse)
3. turn off lights
not just at home where turning off a light will mean saving on your electricity bill. turn off lights at work. is there a conference room with lights always on, even when no one is in there? turn off the light.
i live walking distance from a couple grocery stores i shop at, a bar i like, my pharmacy, many restaurants, etc. walking to these places not only helps me hit my daily step goal on my fitbit, but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
happy earth day!
