i went camping last weekend at joshua tree.
we stayed at the jumbo rocks campground. there are 3 campsites that take reservations (black rock, indian cove and cottonwood), but they are on the exterior of the park. jumbo rocks is one of the campgrounds in the interior of the park. the park was pretty busy but luckily one of the guys in our group drove up early on friday so we were able to snag a campground without a reservation. the only downside with the non-reservation campgrounds (besides the lack of reservation) is there is no running water.
while we were there, we went for a run (though at the high altitude i was not as successful as i would have liked) and went bouldering on some of the large rocks near the ryan campground.
it’s a beautiful park and the joshua trees look like they’re out of a doctor seuss book.
