pct, day one
miles hikes: 15 miles
i am currently laying in the tent, listening to an australian and british man talk about bringing too much food. oh and there are crickets too.
we met up in san diego around 10 am, stopped at brueggers for lunch, then drove to the california/mexico border. i didn’t think we would actually be on the border (with a wall!) but we were. we even walked up to the wall and looked through cracks to the other side. we started the hike around 1 pm with the goal to hike 15 miles to a campsite.
the first four miles were pretty flat and enjoyable. we chatted and caught up on life. miles five to ten were rough and almost all uphill. this extra time put some pressure on us, and we hurried for the last five. the weather so far has been great, when the sun was out we had a nice breeze.
we have met a lot of people so far (and are currently camping with about eight other hikers). we saw lots of green (surprising since we are in the desert, a couple weird fat lizards, and two helicopters (which we think are border patrol).
tonight olga set up the tent and we both had ramen noodles for dinner.
my feet are definitely sore, i hope that doesn’t slow me down tomorrow.
