pct, day seven
it’s my last night in california and this trip has flown by. it’s going to be hard to return to reality.
i am currently in a hotel bed in warner springs. olga is a genius and booked this room months ago. it’s so nice to have a bed and shower. annah (we learned today how to spell it properly) and matt are sharing the room with us.
this morning started like every other morning. we were up around 5:30, ate breakfast at the camp, and took off around 7 am.
we knew today would be easy. we had 5 miles to eagle rock and another 5 to warner springs.
the first 5 miles flew by. we chatted about riddles and jokes, and the australian song “eagle rock”, and soon we were at the monument. we had a photo shoot and then went back on the trail.
the last 5 miles were a bit tougher. i was getting hungry and hot and we were so close to the end. we ended at mile 111.4 of the trail and then had to walk 1.3 miles on the road to get to the hotel.
we reached the hotel and were told that we had to wait 3.5 hours to check in. sigh. we found a shaded picnic table and hung out, ate gas station food, and checked out the warner springs community resource center.
at 4 pm we checked into the hotel and all took long showers. we went to the golf course restaurant across the street and then went back to the hotel room to learn about tim tam slams and help matt lighten his bag.
tomorrow morning i take a shuttle to another shuttle to the airport. i’ll write some posts about things i’ve learned and the best/worst gear.
