pct, day two
start: 15 miles (hauser creek)
end: 30 miles (kitchen creek)
another successful day for hitting our mileage goal.
we woke up early after not sleeping well the night before. this was a combination of me being underdressed and cold, a full and very bright moon, and a man in a tent next to us snoring.
we starting hiking at 6:30 am without breakfast knowing there was a store five miles away. the first section was almost straight uphill, but a couple hours later and we were in lake moreno. we were looking at a map for pct hikers posted at the trailhead when we heard “over here!” it was the “azdpctko” group who gathers this weekend every year to provide water, gatorade, food, and encouragement for pct hikers (otherwise known as “trail magic.”
after chatting to them, we walked .25 miles to a malt shop/store. we split a burger and fries and enjoyed the air conditioning and wifi.
the next ten miles were pretty uneventful besides crossing under the 8 freeway. we laughed the hardest when olga said “working on your base tan?” to a couple wearing marines gear and they didn’t respond to it at all.
we got to the campsite around 4 pm and saw two other friends we had already made on the trail, brad “paddles” and matt. we did laundry (which is still not dry) and washed our feet in the creek. we ate lasagna, ramen, and mashed potatoes and are going to bed early.
